| What are the different types of ovens available and how do they operate?
The most common types of ovens available are: i. Conventional Ovens are traditional non-fan Ovens, which cook using only the top and bottom elements (without the assistance of a fan). This style of Oven is not recommended as modern Conventional Ovens can often allow the Oven door to reach extreme temperatures (this is mainly because of the lack of cavity cooling fans, which are essential in reducing the exterior temperature of the Oven door). ii. Fan Forced Ovens utilize the rear element and fan, whilst Fan-Assisted Ovens utilize the top and bottom elements with the fan. Fan Forced Ovens enable slightly faster cooking times, however the lack of a bottom element can make baking evenly a difficult process. iii. Multi-function Ovens can allow you to cook with up to 10 different combinations of elements and fans. Because the temperature is more evenly distributed throughout the Oven cavity, multiple cooking options means you can achieve more precise cooking results. Prestige recommends Multi-function Ovens. iv. Closed Door Grilling. This is the safest way to grill, operating the Fan and Grill together (Fan Grill function). This utilizes the top element together with the fan, allowing the door to remain closed. This also speeds up the grilling process significantly.
|
| Will the grill inside the Oven splatter and make a mess?
No. The benefit of Fan Grill is that it allows you to use the bottom of your Oven for baking at the same time that you are grilling. The splatter and mess are minimal and, in fact, the Oven cavity is easier to clean than a traditional separate grill as you have the room to get your hand into the Oven cavity whilst cleaning. | What is the best way to Clean Stainless Steel?
The reality is that many brands of ovens have doors which do get very hot. However, at Prestige all our Ovens have cavity cooling fans, which eliminates the need for external venting and ensures kitchen cabinetry is protected form extreme heat. Keep in mind though, that it is a manufacturer's requirement to cut out ventilation holes into the bottom shelf and top of the kicker rail under the Oven cabinet. This ensures the extended lifetime of the Oven.
|
| What is the best way to Clean Stainless Steel?
At Prestige, we have our own Stainless Steel cleaners (customers are welcome to pick up a sample at the showroom), however methylated spirits or Vinegar are both effective substitutes. Many of our clients also find Windex very successful.
|
| Does Stainless Steel scratch easily?
Yes Stainless Steel can scratch easily if you don't take care when cleaning. Never use harsh scrubbers or abrasive cleaners. Always clean along the same way as the grain of the stainless (never against the grain), as scrubbing against the grain will scratch the surface.
|
| How do I best look after my appliance investment?
Regularly cleaning of your appliances after cooking, prevents heavy build up of baked on grease and dirt. Should you accidentally allow grease to bake on the surface, be patient whilst cleaning to ensure the cleaners to do their work before scrubbing.

Fan-Assisted Cooking
Grilling Place the grill tray into the roasting pan and arrange food according to the function you have selected, either in the centre of the tray or spread across the full width of the tray. Position the tray at the correct grilling level and turn the thermostat control to MAX for best results.
Fan Grilling and Browning For sauce-based recipes or re-heating we recommend that you use the third shelf down and set the thermostat to 180°C. Cook until the crumb topping is brown or the sauce is just bubbling -approximately 20-30 minutes. Fan grilling is faster than conventional grilling, so we suggest you reduce heat and time when you first begin using this method to avoid burning.
Patisserie Setting The heat is directed at the bottom of the food and the fan assists the heat to penetrate, cooking the interior without browning the top. As the bottom element is concealed, it is normal for the oven to take a few minutes more than the other fan functions to heat.
|
| My Oven temperature is not correct.
Make sure your oven is preheated. Your oven needs time to preheat before baking. Most pies, cakes, biscuits, etc., have such short cooking times that failure to preheat the oven; can make a significant difference in your cooking results. Check the type of cookware you are using. Your cookware may be having an effect on your baking results. The type of cookware you use can have an effect on your baking results. If you are using dark baking pans, be sure to reduce the oven temperature 25 degrees. These pans retain heat and at the regular baking temperatures some foods may burn or overcook. Make sure heat is not blocked from circulating in the oven. If you use aluminium foil on your Oven shelf, never cover the entire shelf. This will block the circulation of heat in your Oven. You should always allow 2" around the back & sides of the oven shelf for heat circulation. Check the placement of pans in your oven. Pan placement may be affecting how your oven heats. How and where you place pans in your oven will make a difference. Make sure that you leave at least 1-2 inches between pans and between the pans and the side/rear walls of the oven to ensure proper air/heat circulation.
|
| My oven gets too hot.
If you are using an electric oven and the oven is getting too hot it may simply be due to the fact that you are cooking at too high a temperature. Electric Fanforced and multifunction ovens are designed too be used with the fan in operation and at a temperature around the 180 not at 220 or 230 levels. Electric ovens require adequate ventilation within the oven box that means cold air must be able to access the area around the ovens exterior chamber. The bottom shelf upon which the oven is sitting on must have a large section cut out to allow for ventilation, this alone may not be enough in homes with solid brick walls. See ventilation specifications for more details.
|
| How to clean my oven?
At Prestige we do not recommend the use of any commercial oven cleaners; Soap and water or Soap-filled scouring pad will do the job and avoid damaging your new oven. Regular wiping with mild soap and water (particularly after cooking meat) will lengthen the time between major cleanings. Always finish by rinsing thoroughly any soap traces that may be left on the oven liners as this can cause stains when oven is reheated. Lightly scrub a stubborn stain, the upper elements requires a little more time to clean. Large spills should be cleaned up as soon as possible after the oven has cooled down. A final rubdown with soap and water and a stiff nylon brush followed by a quick rinse and wipe dry should clean the oven thoroughly. Many of the high end appliances have a steam clean function or have the non-pores enamel, which allows you to steam at 150% which makes cleaning a breeze.
|
| Which is more important Benchtops space or cooking area?
Some of the latest Cooktops have front mounted controls as this design increases working space and allows you to use larger pots and pans.
|
| Gas or Electric Cooktops, which do I choose?
Gas Cooktops heat and cool quickly; because the flame is visible it can be controlled easily. Electronic ignition, low energy consumption, and high flame levels enable you to heat and boil water quickly. Electric Cooktops allow for lower temperatures than were traditionally available with gas, handy when simmering soups or sauces. Keep in mind though, that Electric Eco plates retain heat for up to 45 minutes after they have been turned off and their flat surfaces must be handled carefully to prevent scratching and discoloration. |
| How do I clean the igniters on my Gas Cooktop?
The major problem with Gas Cooktops is the failure of there ignition systems, most Prestige Cooktops have hidden igniters and hence do not block. Cooktops which have exposed igniters, should be cleaned using Vinegar or methylated spirits and a clean rag. Clean the tops of the igniters with a rotary motion. |
| How do I clean the burners on my Gas Cooktop?
Again, Vinegar or methylated spirits should do the trick.
|
| What are the types of dishwasher available on the market?
There are three different types of dishwashers available on the market. i. Freestanding: these are the most common dishwashers available in White, Black or Stainless Steel. ii. Semi-integrated: These dishwashers have a matching door that is attached to the front of the dishwasher, leaving only the control panel visible. iii. Fully-integrated, this is when a full door is attached to the front of the dishwasher and controls are completely hidden (the dishwasher then appears like just another cabinet). | What are the features to look for when choosing a Rangehood/Canopy?
